Nasturtiums are among the quickest and easiest annuals to grow. They produce masses of vividly coloured blooms from midsummer through to the first autumn frosts. Not only do they look spectacular, but the flowers, leaves and seeds are all edible. Nasturtiums also make excellent companion plants in the vegetable patch: the leaves attract caterpillars of large and small white butterflies, keeping them away from brassicas and blackflies are drawn to the leaves, helping protect beans.
